Workforce Development Council (WDC)
Tennessee’s Workforce Development Council (WDC) provides leadership and guidance to Tennessee’s Workforce Development System. Our vision is to increase the competitive position of Tennessee businesses and attract new businesses through the development of a highly skilled workforce.
The WDC works to connect businesses with educators in order to help meet workforce needs and prepare our future workforce. We meet frequently with local businesses, then with the businesses along with educators and students. The WDC also meets to keep in stride with the Roane County Schools’ Career and Technical Education program and Work-Based Learning through visits and roundtables.
Roane County offers a diverse, willing, and available workforce, ranging from the Oak Ridge area of Roane County, where there are more PhDs per square mile than anywhere else in the country (along with the technical, scientific and research support staff to go with it), to the traditional blue-collar skilled labor pool from the traditional industrial activity located throughout the rest of the county.
We offer an atypically wide range of educational and occupational training institutions, providing robust options of workforce training opportunities for all types of commerce and industry. For example, Roane State Community College graduated more technical workers than other community colleges in the country last year.
